Writing Down Specific Goals Every Day Helps Make Things Happen
Things have really been picking up for me here lately. I attribute a lot of that to the fact that I write down specific goals EVERY DAY. These objectives are not goals for the day, but rather long term obejectives that I am seeking to obtain. Having a dream is one thing. Having objectives to achieve some of your dreams are somewhat different from the dreams themselves, but not entirely. Most dreams don’t have a deadline. But a goal is a dream with a deadline to achieve that dream. There is an acronym that comes with writing down long term objectives. It’s called “SMART.” S stands for specific, M stands for measurable, A stands for achievable, R stands for relevant and T stands for time based. Here is a website link that describes this acronym: S.M.A.R.T. Acronym .
Specific means what is to be accomplished exactly? How will when you know when it is done. It can’t be too general and it has to be a very specific objective. If it’s too general you won’t know if it’s really done or not. Measurable means how will you know when it meets some kind of standard that is measured by quantity, quality, frequency, costs, deadlines, amount of money and so on. Achievable is basically another way of saying setting a realistic goal that the person who is setting it will be able to achieve.
The objective has to be reasonable and not unrealistic. Perhaps one mistake that many people make is setting unrealistic goals or setting such a high goal that it’s very unlikely to be achievable. So, it’s important to set realistic goals. I think this is also very important part of the SMART acronym. Relevant is if this objective should be done and does it fit in with your dreams. You don’t want to pursue a goal that doesn’t fit your dreams. So, if a goal doesn’t fit your dreams, it’s not relevant and you shouldn’t be pursuing it! So, you want to be sure the objective you have is relevant to your dreams. Not only that, your goals need to align with your values. You don’t want to set goals that conflict with your values. Value are IMPORTANT and so when writing down relevant goals using the S.M.A.R.T. acronym, you want to make sure that goal aligns with your dreams but also with your values.
Time based in the SMART acronym is setting a deadline for that goal to be achieved. This helps to create a sense of urgency in getting this objective done. Having a sense of urgency is extremely important to motivating you to work and get goals accomplished. Without that sense of urgency, there is also a lack of motivation to complete the goal. So making an objective time based adds urgency which in turn adds motivation to you to get it done. This is extremely important. This is the acronym I follow when writing down my long term goals EVERY DAY.
When writing down your goals that meet this S.M.A.R.T. acronym, you also need to write down a plan to achieve those long term goals you have written down that are within that S.M.A.R.T. acronym paradigm. If you don’t have a plan to achieve your long term written down goals, then you are planning to fail. Fail to plan, plan to fail. So you got to have a plan! Not only do you want to have a plan to achieve your goals, but you don’t want to write down your goals just one time and then forget them. You are less likely to achieve your goals then if you just write them down one time and then just forget them. You need to write down these long term goals EVERY SINGLE DAY and don’t miss a day! This keeps you focused on those goals. If you don’t write them down every day, then you are going to lose focus on achieving your goals and following the plan to achieve those goals.
In addition to writing down my long term goals every day, I also write down a “Daily To Do List.” This is also very important as well. After I write down long term goal list that follows the acronym S.M.A.R.T. I then write down the tasks I want to complete for the day. These tasks involve making progress towards those long term objectives and follow the plan that I have in place to achieve those long term objectives. A “daily to do list” is important so that you you have tasks to do every day, that follow the plan to achieve your long term objectives that you write down every day that follow the S.M.A.R.T acronym. You do everything I have written in this blog post and you will be absolutely amazed at what you can achieve.
Generally, when choosing long term objectives that I want to complete, I think of things that will really improve my life and make my life better and happier and then I write them down. These are dreams and then I choose one of these dreams or long term objectives that would do the most to make my life happier and improve my life the most and then that becomes my primary long term objective. This has been called by authors like Brian Tracy your “Major Definite Purpose.” The Major Definite Purpose is the goal, that is also in harmony (and not in conflict) with your other long term goals that will do the most to improve your life, make your life better and make you a happier person. I write that down particular objective down with my other long term objectives every day too but I write it down as my Major Definite Purpose.
I really, genuinely and honestly hope that this blog post is read by everybody. It will help you as this has helped me. One of my goals is to help others achieve the happiness they deserve as well. God Bless y’all!
