Eventective Profile Is Now Live!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I Have An Eventective Profile

Hello everybody! I just wanted you guys to know, I also have an eventective profile here. It looks like it’s event planning website. So, if you have a specific kind of event, you can simply come to this website, let people know what your budget is and then start planning an event. I notice they also have a forum on this website that I can take advantage of when asking for help. I think one of the smart things I can do is respond to people who advertise what kind of event they are trying to organize and volunteer my services while explaining how my services fit into and help their event.

I will also be performing at Applebees tonight from 7pm-9pm! So I am looking forward to going to Applebees, getting out of the house, seeing everybody at the restaurant and doing some magic and balloons. In case some of you are new readers, the Applebees I perform at is 100 Valley Drive, Perry, GA 31069. I’ll be there from 7pm-9pm. Looking forward to it!

I’ll also be heading up to Tennessee tomorrow. My family and I will be spending time with the family up there for the 4th of July weekend. Looking forward to watching the fireworks. I’ll also be watching one of my cousins perform in his band called “Bad Monkey.” He’s been performing in a band since the 1980s. If you saw pictures of him from the 1980s he looked like he was one of those 80s hair band rocker type guys. He’s older now, but I remember when I was a kid, driving down from upstate New York to visit the folks in Tennessee and seeing him with long hair like most 80s hair bands had their hair done up. He doesn’t look like that anymore, but the family in Tennessee has pictures of him looking like an 80s rock star back in his younger years of the 1980s.

Anyway, time to end this blog post here!

Tony Hawk Lands 900 At 48 Years Old!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looks Like Old Timer Tony Hawk Still Has What It Takes!

So, I was watching this interesting YouTube video about an old timer skateboarder legend Tony Hawk and it seems he managed to land a 900 at the ripe old age of 48 years old! Here is the YouTube video link: Landing a 900 At Age 48. He struggled with it for a little bit he finally managed to pull it off. It will probably be the last time he will be able to pull off nailing a 900 given his age. Plus, young skateboarders today pull off landing a 1080.

Tony Hawk

Watching Tony Hawk skateboarding, I could easily seem myself as a young kid really getting into this kind of sport. It’s pretty funny and fun to watch the skateboarders doing their fancy tricks. They put on a pretty good show and it looks like you have to be in good shape and flexible as well as coordinated to do some of those fancy tricks. I don’t imagine it’s very easy to learn how to do it plus you can get seriously injured. But I could easily see myself as a young kid doing something like this.

I’m not sure if I would have had the body build to do it. It seems like a lot of the skateboarders are wiry, skinny and tall. I have always been short, stocky and stout for my most of my teenage and young adult years, so I am not so sure I would have had the build to do such a sport and be good at it. I could be wrong. Perhaps with some serious practice I might have been good at it. Still, I think it’s an interesting sport to watch! I found the article that talks about Tony Hawk pulling off landing a 900 at his old age:

Bryan Menegus of Sploid writes in his article “Tony Hawk (Old) Can Still Pull Off His Famous 900”

Since Hawk made the trick a household name, younger skateboarders have been able to pull off 1080s. And frankly, Tony has nothing to prove to anyone. Half a century is a long time to fall off things every single day. Even more rewarding to watch than the trick itself is Hawk’s visible level of bittersweet relief when he finally nails it, knowing he probably won’t ever be able to perform the 900 again. “Spencer was there on my first one,” he says walking off with his second-oldest son, “now he’s [here] on my last.”

Stay cool, skate dad.

That tripped me out at the end of his article, Bryan says “stay cool, skate dad.” Anyway, hope you enjoyed the YouTube video and article!

Vacation To Tennessee Coming Up

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looks Like I Am Going On A Small Vacation

At the end of this week, looks like I will be driving up to Tennessee for a small vacation.

This is William Davenport. Yesterday, my wife May Davenport was a guest blogger here. I had a gig yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to do as much marketing as I would have liked to. Today, I also had to do some maintenance on the swimming pool. That takes a great deal of time, so today, I haven’t been able to do as much as I would have liked to. Tomorrow, though, I plan to finally have time to do some serious marketing and be able to do some follow ups on the leads being produced from various sources that I am advertising on. So, I have really been trying to get around to doing lead follow ups and it seems there has always been something that comes up to derail that effort. But tomorrow, looks like it’s going to be a great day to do some lead follow ups, so I am very happy!

My family will be going to Tennessee from July 1st to July 5th. I plan on continuing to blog while I am up there on my company blog here. I’ll probably have to find a hot spot somewhere in order to blog or buy a hot spot that I can use. I prefer not to pay for the expense of a hot spot though. That’s a pain in the butt! Probably, I’ll go to a place like Starbucks which usually has a hot spot to get my blogging done for my company as well as follow up and respond to any leads. I plan to also bring my day planner with me. That way, if I book anything while up on vacation in Tennessee, I can write it on my day planner and then when I get back to the house, I can write it on my company calendar. That should help out tremendously.

I also found here an article that discusses 4 good reason why you should go on vacation with your family: 4 Good Reasons. Anyway, have much to do, so I will be ending this blog post here!

4th Of July Celebrations and gatherings.

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

4th Of July Is Coming!

Hello, this is William Davenport’s wife, May Davenport and I am standing in for my husband today. Today I would like to talk about the 4th Of July and all the celebrations that come with it. Some people go out to see the parades and fireworks and some stay home and have a family gathering and Bar-B-Que, no matter how you celebrate it is a great time to get together with all your family and friends and have a good time. It is also a great time to take the time to thank all the men and woman in the armed forces for all that they do and all that they have done for us and this country. Many have put their lives on the line for us and I just want to take the time to say Thank You for all that you have done for us.

On the 4th Of July, I also think about my family more at this time for I have three members of my family that were born on the 4th and we call them our firecrackers. They are my father, Richard Gendron who has passed, his twin brother my uncle, Bob Gendron, and my cousin, Cherly Lynn. I have awesome memories of celebrating their day and then going to see the fireworks afterwards, which my cousin thought that they were for her, of course she no longer thinks that. We would all gather either at a family member’s house or go to the beach and parks to have a cookout. Everyone would bring something to eat and share with the rest of the family, and the games we played were for both young and old so no one was left out. To me the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays just so I can celebrate it with the family and to honor those who have and are serving this country.

I also found this article on some cool things to do in the Atlanta area on the 4th of July: Things To Do In Atlanta
I want to say to everyone Happy 4th Of July, have fun with family and fiends in what ever you do to celebrate and be safe.

Wonderful Times Last Night and Today

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Last Night Was Some Wonderful Times and Today Will Be Too!

I really had an awesome time last night. I was doing a wedding reception and the magic performance I did was a really big hit! The audience was great and I had a wonderful time! I was kind of “under cover” as a magician and then when the time was right, I started performing magic tricks with ordinary every day items you can find in the reception area. Sort of like how you see the magician from Carbonaro effect perform. They had no idea I was a magician and then all the sudden I would impossible things with ordinary objects. People were totally flabbergasted! It was funny!

It was for an Atlanta party event. I have to say I absolutely love the city of Atlanta! Atlanta is an awesome city!

Wonderful Times

I was also doing some research into tips to hire a high quality professional magician. I found this article which I think will be very useful for anybody wanting to hire a magician for their wedding reception. Here it is: Tips On Hiring A Magician For Wedding Reception. Seems like this article applies to hiring a magician for the UK when they mention the Magic Circle. But all the other material is very relevant. Here is a quote from the article that I think is relevant:

Wedding Magician Mike Stoner writes on “” website article “5 Things to be Aware of When Booking a Magician for Your Wedding”

Anyone can set up a website and call themselves a ‘professional magician’, but how do you know if they’re any good? The best way is to check that they are in the world famous ‘Magic Circle’. All of the top magicians in the UK are members and you can only join after an extensive interview and examination process. It is your guarantee of quality. It’s also a good idea to have a look at any video clips and reviews that you can find. The videos will show you how the magician performs, but to avoid being fooled you really want to look for clips that show tricks being done from start to finish, not ones full of cuts and pointless fancy graphics. Reviews are also useful, but anyone can make up a quote so it’s sensible to only trust those that come from verified sources such as specialist review sites and Google.

So, I think this part of the article is very important. You want some verified reviews so that you know you are hiring a magician who will make sure that everybody has wonderful times at your wedding reception. Today, I will also be going to my nieces birthday at my sister’s and brother in law’s place. So, it will be great wonderful times with family!

Niece Has A Birthday Coming Up

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

My Niece will Be Celebrating A Birthday Tomorrow

This evening, I have a gig. I’ll be performing for a wedding celebration. I even came up with a great card trick to perform for the guest of honors. So, I am looking forward to it! After performing today, I am also looking forward to getting back home, getting a good night’s sleep and celebrating my niece’s birthday tomorrow. We’ll be going over to my sister’s and brother in law’s house tomorrow to celebrate. Sure am looking forward to it! I know my niece will be happy to see the family coming over.

I am sure it will be nothing big, just a birthday cake or something to that effect. I am personally a strong family man and I believe very strongly in family values.

I found this great article about the importance of taking time out to spend quality time with your family: Importance of Spending Quality Time With Family. Here is a quote from the article-

Suzanne Pish of Michigan State University Extension writes in her article “Spending quality family time together is very important”:

A strong family finds that opportunities for quality time emerge from quantity time: The more time you spend together, the better chance you have of sharing quality experiences. Eating meals together, talking about the events of the day, sharing joys and defeats, doing household chores together and spending some evenings popping corn and watching movies are examples of shared activities. Some families even schedule one evening every week for special family activities.

Doing things a child or spouse wants to do also sends a strong message of love. It’s a good idea to identify the things family members want to do together. In my family, we spend our summers showing goats together. Every weekend we pack up the coolers, show equipment, children and goats, and we head to the next show.

Running a business can be a lot of work and take up much of your time. I am always trying to strike the right balance between family and work. It’s important to keep a good balance.

Top Gun Memories And The 80s

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Had Some Top Gun Memories When I Saw Kelly McGillis In The News

So I was reading over the news when there was a mention of Kelly McGillis In The News:

Lindsay Kimble of People Magazine writes in her article “Kelly McGillis Explains Why She Got a Concealed Carry Permit After Home Break-In and Assault: Top Gun Star Recalls Trauma of Past Rapes and Stalking”

Top Gun actress Kelly McGillis says she has been issued a conceal and carry gun permit after being assaulted during a break-in at her home on June 17.

The 58-year-old wrote on Facebook on Thursday that she was “rushed” through a conceal and carry course and is now “armed and ready.”

“The Henderson County Sheriff’s department has been absolutely the greatest,” McGillis wrote, sharing a photo of her first target practice.

So it looks like she was a victim of here recently of a break in. Very sorry to hear that this happened to Kelly! I remember when she starred in the movie “Top Gun” back in the 1980s with Tom Cruise. At the time it was 1986 and I was a military brat kid. Both of my parents were serving in the US Air Force and lived in Plattsburgh, New York. We had a good life. I have some very good and wonderful childhood memories of living there in Plasttsburgh and Chazy, New York. At the time, they had an air force base there called Plattsburgh Air Force Base. It no long exists and the base has closed down. Really hated to see that air force base closed down. Loved the community in Plattsburgh and Chazy and hated leaving. Honestly, it was a terrible event for me moving from upstate New York. Those were just the realities of being a military brat.

But see Kelly in the news, brought me back in time briefly to the 1980s when I was a kid in the movie theater watching Top Gun. I had watched the movie in the air force base movie theater at the time. It was of course, at the time, a great movie and I loved it! It made you want to become a pilot and at that time I dreamed of being an air force pilot.

Top Gun

I also played ice hockey up there as a kid and LOVED the sport. Played left wing and goal tender when I was a kid in youth hockey at the time. We had moved to Plattsburgh Air Force Base when I was a kid from Spain, where my sister was born on a US military base there. And then I spent a great deal of my childhood there. We lived on the air force base in New York, then moved and lived in Chazy and then moved to Plattsburgh which was also from New York. When the air force base up there closed down, my mother was still in the air force while my dad was retired from the air force. She was stationed in Georgia at a local air force base down here where she retired from the air force.

But seeing the article on Kelly McGillis brought me back in time to my childhood in New York when I watched the movie in the 1980s in the base theater up there when the base up there was still open. I remembered how things and how life was then in comparison to today. It was some good times. I have even taken the time to visit up there a few times to see what things look like here recently a few years ago. Much has changed and you can see remenants of the air force base that no longer exists up there. I even walked what was the base housing at the time where I used to play as a child and on my first visit it was like walking through a time warp and going back into time into the 1980s. But the last few visits I had come to terms with the reality that most things change. Some things are still the same about much of the town outside of where the air force base used to be. Some of the people I knew back then are no longer alive. It was quite an experience going back and visiting again.

My wife and I will probably go back and visit again. We have family up there so we want to go and visit with them. I will also take the time to reminisce in my wonderful and happy childhood memories of the place too!

Hot Outside Today! Trying To Stay Cool!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Summer Has Arrived And It’s Definitely Been Hot!

It’s certainly been a hot couple of past days! The wife and I when scrubbing down the swimming pool have noticed the hot weather. Even inside our house, with the air conditioning running (and we have like some kind of energy saver air conditioner) you can still feel the heat. You pretty much don’t want to do much at all until night time when it’s cooler. But, I still have to stay busy during the day time when it’s because I am running a company.

Given that I have a gig on Saturday, I will probably take the time and jump in the swimming pool. Tomorrow will be a great day for doing that. I don’t like to get too busy and working all the time and then have no time for myself. Running a business is a lot of hard work, but it’s also very easy while running a business to basically end up just working all the time. It easily end up as being one of those all work and no play kind of deals and you are simply working all the time with never any time for yourself.

So, I like to make it a point to make time for myself and I think by ultimately doing that, I am also much more productive. So, I will be out in the hot weather tomorrow relaxing before doing a gig tomorrow. Here is a website for a few tips for keeping cool during hot summer weather:

Melissa Conrad Stöppler, MD of writes in her article “15 Ways To Keep Cool When It’s Hot”:

“Keeping cool when temperatures reach record highs isn’t just about comfort. Dangerously high temperatures can result in heat-related illnesses ranging from heat cramps to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The following tips can help you keep cool all summer long.

1) Alter your pattern of outdoor exercise to take advantage of cooler times (early morning or late evening). If you can’t change the time of your workout, scale it down by doing fewer minutes, walking instead or running, or decreasing your level of exertion.
2) Wear loose-fitting clothing, preferably of a light color.
3) Cotton clothing will keep you cooler than many synthetics.
4) Fill a spray bottle with water and keep it in the refrigerator for a quick refreshing spray to your face after being outdoors.
5) Fans can help circulate air and make you feel cooler even in an air-conditioned house.”

So, those are a few tips for keeping a little cooler during the summer time. You can read more by clicking the link. My wife and I personally use fans in the house in addition to our “energy saver” air conditioner. I’ll also be using plenty of sun screen when I jump in the pool tomorrow!

Newspaper Torn And Restored Trick

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Newspaper Torn and Restored Magic Trick I Have Been Practicing

Here recently I have been working on and developing a stage magic show. One of the tasks I have had to do is pick out some magic tricks that I think are great for a stage show. So, one of the tricks I picked out is a classic. It’s the torn and resorted newspaper trick.

I also had to pick out which version that I think would be best. I am not going to say publicly what version I perform as it is a secret of the art of magic. However, I took a video once I got the trick down technically. The presentation of the trick still needs working on and so does the development of the premise of my presentation. This video is just of me in my home, in a relaxed and fun environment, practicing the trick. Here it is:

So, after watching the video you can see, I was just in a very relaxed environment, practicing the trick. You can also tell, I need to work on the presentation of the magic trick. One of the things I need to do is develop the premise of the trick. The premise I am trying to develop is that I get sales newspapers in the drive way and I hate getting them. So, that is the premise I am trying to develop for the presentation of this trick. Perhaps, some of my readers can offer a tip or two on how to develop the premise of the trick. I would love to hear it!

I found this link that discusses ideas on presenting something. Here it is: Various Ways To Present Something. I think the best way out of these choices from the article in this link for presenting this trick is with the “false start” approach. Here is a quote from the link below on both approaches:

A ‘false start’ story is when you begin to tell a seemingly predictable story, before unexpectedly disrupting it and beginning it over again. You lure your audience into a false sense of security, and then shock them by turning the tables.

This format is great for talking about a time that you failed in something and were forced to ‘go back to the start’ and reassess. It’s ideal for talking about the things that you learnt from that experience. Or the innovative way that you solved your problem.

But best of all, it’s a quick attention hack which will disrupt your audience’s expectations and surprise them into paying closer attention to your message.

Good for:

1) Disrupting audience expectations
2) Showing the benefits of a flexible approach
3) Keeping the audience engaged

So, I think, I am going to further develop my presentation of this trick with the premise of hating getting sales newspapers in my driveway and that somehow, magically, no matter how many I tear up, I can never get rid of a sales newspaper from my driveway. I think I will use that “false start” approach to more fully develop my premise and presentation of the trick.

Middle Class Seems To Have Moved Up Since 1970s!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Found An Article On The Middle Class That Surprised Me!

So, I found this article on the middle class that really surprised me: How Some Are Moving Up!. So, according to this article, it looks like the middle class has been moving up and becoming wealthier since the 1970s-

Rick Newman of Yahoo Finance writes in his article “The middle class went where? You’ll be surprised”:

America is slipping backward, if you buy the angry rhetoric from this year’s presidential campaign. The rich are getting richer, the middle class can barely make it and the ranks of the poor are swelling.

Except the numbers tell a somewhat different story. In a new study, the Urban Institute examined the composition of the middle class since 1979, and found that it is, in fact, shrinking. But more people seem to have moved upward on the income scale than downward. This chart summarizes the changes from 1979 to 2014, the latest year for which numbers were available:

Middle Class

Now that was some interesting data that I had no idea about. Looks like some have moved up a little bit and it looks like we have less poor today than what we did in the 1970s. I actually think this is great news! So, I guess things aren’t as bad as I thought! I was under the impression that the everybody was getting poorer except the rich. Guess I was wrong! We have more folks who have moved up to upper middle class today from the 1970s and less people who are poor today than in the 1970s. So, I can’t see how this is bad news, but rather good news.

Here is where the impression probably comes from that the many are falling behind while the rich get richer:

Rick Newman of Yahoo Finance writes in his article “The middle class went where? You’ll be surprised”:

There’s good news and bad news in these numbers. The good news is that the average American is, in fact, getting ahead, in contrast to the gloomy picture presidential candidates Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders and many other politicians have painted. Total income, adjusted for inflation, rose by 53% from 1979 to 2014.

The bad news is that a much larger share of the nation’s income is going to the rich and the upper middle class, which is why many in the middle or below feel like they’re falling behind. They’re actually getting ahead compared with how the middle lived 10 or 20 years ago, but the income gap between the top 40% and the bottom 60% is getting bigger. So the middle is falling behind, if you compare it with those who have more.

So, it is true that the rich have been getting richer and that their is a growing income gap and income inequality. That is true. But it’s also true that Americans are getting ahead more in comparison to the 1970s. We have less poor today than we did in the 1970s and many of the middle class have moved up to the upper middle class and the upper class. So, this gives accurate data as to what is really going on and why some get the impression that everybody is falling behind except the wealthy. This impression is false. People are getting ahead more these days in comparison to the 1970s, it just that the wealthy are getting ahead much more than everybody else has has created the growing gap between rich and poor and economic inequality. But, nevertheless, despite the growing gap and economic inequality, we have less poor today and more wealthy and upper middle class than in the 1970s. So, I think it’s reasonable to say we have been making progress. Ideally, we could address economic inequality while on the same token ensuring that people are less poor in the future than today while also ensuring that more people continue moving up the economic ladder. Pretty cool and interesting article! Loved it!
