AJ Styles Is Such a Villain!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

John Cena Gets Betrayed By AJ Styles In Wrestling!

I love watching wrestling. I don’t know all the big names and where they are from, but when I get a chance, I love to watch a good wrestling match in the WWE. Yesterday, during Memorial Day, I was watching WWE’s Monday Night Raw where John Cena made a big appearance. It was awesome! Loved it! John Cena made a grand entrance and he had his theme music playing with some of the fans holding up signs that “The Champ is Back” ha ha ha ha! Awesome! Here is a video clip from last night’s Monday Night Raw: Last Night’s Monday Night Raw. AJ Styles was such a VILLAIN! Unbelievable how John Cena got set up! And AJ just went in there sucking up to John Cena and being nice to him and then when John Cena’s back was turned and when he didn’t expect it, John gets sucker punched by AJ Styles! What an outrage! It just really made you dislike AJ for taking the low road.

AJ Styles

So, John had made the appearance to admit that it was a “new era” but that the new guys were going to have to beat him first before he would move aside. So AJ Styles makes an appearance and gets in the same ring with John and has nothing but nice things to say about him. Then two other wrestlers Gallows and Anderson showed up and were making fun of and mocking AJ for “sucking up” and they said they were going to kick John Cena’s rear end including AJ Styles. So John and AJ were about to defend themselves when all the sudden AJ suckered punched John and then Gallows and Anderson teamed up with AJ Styles to start poundsing on John Cena. It was just an epic outrage! I hope to see John Cena and AJ Styles get into a real match and John kick AJ Styles rear end!

Memorial Day And Honoring Those Who Gave All

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Honoring Those Who Gave All For Our Country On Memorial Day

I think it is important that my company and myself take the time to honor all past service members who gave their lives for our country. Memorial Day is not a day about family and picnics, but it is a day for remembrance and paying the highest respect to those gave their lives serving our country.

Memorial Day

I would like to post an article on the true meaning of Memorial Day:

True Meaning Of The Holiday

NBC4 Staff writes in “Here’s the true reason behind the Memorial Day holiday”

Many people across America think of Memorial Day as the official start of summer; a day to kick back, fire up the grill and enjoy a day off of work. The holiday’s true meaning, however, is to honor those who lost their lives to give you that freedom.

The origins of Memorial Day date back to 1868. It was first established on May 5th as Decoration Day, a time when Americans adorned the graves of fallen soldiers from the Civil War with flowers.

The holiday didn’t include all fallen service members until after World War I. At that time, it was expanded to honor all the fallen servicemen and woman who died in all American wars.

A congressional act in 1971 then made it a national holiday, and shifted the day of celebration to the last Monday of the month of May. And in 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act which encourages all citizens to pause wherever they are at 3pm on Memorial Day to remember the fallen.

So there you have it! The true origins and meaning of the holiday. It originally started out as “Decoration Day” to honor those who lost their lives in the American Civil War. That’s an interesting piece of history I did not know until I did some research into the origins of the holiday itself. It eventually expanded to honor all of America’s war dead who died in all of America’s wars. So, please do take the time out today to pay your respects to our country’s service members who gave their lives in the past and present wars.

Value of an Education

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

The Value of An Education And What Some People Are Willing To Do To Get An Education

I ran across this CNN article about a group of Chinese children who literally risk their lives to get to school so that they can get an education: Chinese Kids Risk Their Lives Getting To School. I was just totally amazed and admired the bravery and courage of these Chinese kids to risk their lives so that they can get a good education. Their can be no doubt when those kids arrive at school that they are their to learn and do their best after risking their lives to get their just so that they can learn and get educated. It’s also, of course, heartbreaking that children must make this dangerous journey to get to school so that they can get an education. But I also admire their bravery, courage and also it illustrates just how valuable an education really is.

Education is so valuable that you have these children in China willing to risk their lives just for the opportunity to get an education. It speaks volumes not just to the bravery and courage of these Chinese children, but also of just how valuable an education is truly worth. I remember a famous physicist who said, you think the cost of education is high, just wait till you see the cost of ignorance. So, when you see things from this perspective, it truly makes you appreciate the value of an education.

Value

Shen Lu of CNN writes:

Some kids will do anything to get out of school. Others risk their lives to get there.
In the mountains of southwest China’s Sichuan province, children descend an 800-meter (half-mile) cliff on unsteady vine ladders to reach school. The two-hour trip is so demanding, they only return home twice a month.

Atule’er, a village of no more than 400 people, drew wide attention after the state-run Beijing News published a series of striking photos this week of 15 schoolchildren as young as 6 climbing the vine ladders –or “sky ladders,” as locals call them.

I think teachers who have students complain about going to school or students who are not putting in their best effort to get their education should probably tell this story about these Chinese kids who risk it all just to go to school.

Shen Lu of CNN continues to write:

Chen said he’s amused when he considers the contrast with wealthier children in Beijing.
“Think about it. City parents get worried when their spoiled kids aren’t happy, but what the kids here face is a formidable abyss — they could fall any second,” he said.
He said the children didn’t seem scared. Only one said he became afraid once when he saw a friend close to slipping from the ladder.

It is pretty amazing when you think about it. As a combat veteran of Afghanistan, when you face danger like this, it really does help to build your character. I felt in some ways, war changed me and made me a better person and I think in many ways, the dangers these Chinese children face just to get an education will also make them better. Reading this article really makes you appreciate the value of an education and how it is important to not take any opportunity for granted.

Looking Forward To Memorial Weekend

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looking Forward To Memorial Weekend of Family And Relaxation

Today I have a gig in the evening. Looking forward to performing! I will also be performing a new torn and restored newspaper trick. That should be fun! So, I am looking forward to this gig. I have been working on that torn and restored newspaper trick for a long time. I can’t tell you how many countless newspapers I have torn and restored. So, I am glad to have it in my magic act now! I’ll also be on the road today too and given that is the case, I will probably be dealing with some serious traffic as well.

Memorial Day weekend can be a very busy time in the Atlanta area. Everybody is taking time off to have some fun and enjoy life. So, the traffic can get pretty congested, plus there is a lot to do in the Atlanta area during Memorial day weekend: Things To Do In Atlanta On Memorial Day Weekend.

Tomorrow, family will be coming over. Lots of people this time around! I sure will be glad to see everybody! I am very excited too! I am always a happy camper to see my family. I guess you can say I am a simple man that takes pleasure and happiness in the small simple things in life. Family has always been very important to me or just simply sitting on the porch under an umbrella looking out over a beautiful swimming pool while drinking some Stevia tea.

Looking

We’ll be having some aunts and uncles coming over tomorrow. I imagine they will be wanting to go swimming in the swimming pool, so I would like to be sure that will be ready to go too. Probably just need to double check to make sure any possible leaves has been cleaned out of the pool and maybe double check the chemicals. Anyway, got a busy day ahead of me so I got to end this blog post here!

Interesting Gig I Had Yesterday

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Private School Offered Art of Magic Elective Class Was An Interesting Gig

Yesterday I worked an event that I was booked for a private school that offered an elective course in the art of magic to high school students. I thought this was pretty awesome and it was great to be able to able to share the art of magic to students who actually want to serious study it. Some of the magic tricks they were performing I recognized as invented by the magician and artist Paul Harris. They did not know the name of the artist who invented the magic trick they were performing, so I let them know. I think it’s important that artists get recognition for the work they do and that people know that it is their art they are performing.

This particular private school is ranked as one of the top 3 private schools in the state of Georgia and many of these students go to get educations in top tiered colleges and universities as well as move on to high paying jobs and leadership positions in the future. So, I felt it was important to do a good job and share some of the wisdom that I have learned from the art of magic. I talked about how art is truth and how comedians for example, tell you the truth but they get away with it because they are funny while they do it. Or the musician who sings a song about life and telling it like it is. I explained that the art of magic is no different. A magician uses illusions to expose cultural illusions which in turn reveals truth. Most people have a little trouble understanding how magic which uses deception and trickery actually, in the end reveals deeper truths. It seems to many to be a paradox.

Interesting Gig

So it was an interesting gig to say the least! I think it’s great that a top private school offers an elective course in the art of magic. This is especially important because it helps the art to survive and continue on. Teaching art and especially the art of magic is very important in my view. Magic is not as popular as the art of music for example. So, I feel very passionate about keeping the art of magic alive. Perhaps, one day, when I die, if I have money left when I die, I will donate it to the Magic Castle or help to find an organization in the South to keep the art of magic alive.

I found this article on the top reasons why it is important to teach art in school:

Reasons for Teaching Art

So, I was happy to have this interesting gig where a top private school offers an elective course in the art of magic. Very proud of this private school for doing so!

Questions Each State Type Into The Google Search

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

The Kinds Of Questions People Type Into Google Search By State

So I found this crazy article about the kinds of questions each state types into the Google Search engine: Google Searches By State. Here is what the article is about:

Ryan Nickum of Estately Blog writes:

“Using Google Autocomplete we compiled hundreds of the most common questions Americans type into the Google search bar. We ran those searches through Google Trends to determine which state queried each of these selected searches the most over the past 12 years. To be clear, the list below does not represent what each state Googles the most, it simply shows the searches each state Googles more frequently than the other 49 states and the District of Columbia.”

Ok, so maybe it’s not what each state googles the most, but it is what is is googled more frequently. Ok, little confused there, but I will go with it. So, I live in the state of Georgia and according to this blog article Georgia has googled up some pretty crazy things! Here is it what it said:

Ryan Nickum of Estately Blog writes about what Georgia googles most:

GEORGIA: Who created God? / Who is in the Illuminati? / What is calamari? / What is adultery? / What is ovulation? / Who is going to be the next president? / Was Jesus black? / Who is Allah? / Is DMX dead? / Is Jesus real? / Is Vietnam communist? / How to hack an Instagram account? / How to improve credit score? / How to hotwire a car / Where is weed legal? / When is a woman most fertile? / Why are my nipples so sore? / How to be a man? / How to become a stripper? / Is Africa a country?

OOOOOKKKKAAAAY! So it looks like Georgia has some pretty crazy inquiries! A little scary and creepy too! Georgia also has some far out ideas it seems when wondering who the Illuminati is! It’s a conspiracy! And then there is how to hot wire a car! Now why would somebody want to know how to hotwire a car? Who would want to know something like that?

And then their is Nebraska! Here is what Nebraska googles:

Ryan Nickum of Estattely Blog writes:

NEBRASKA: Who owns Budweiser? / When is Arbor Day? / What is Tinder?

questions

So, we can tell that Nebraska has some serious beer drinkers and partiers there! Go Nebraska! Ha ha ha ha!

Then there is my old home state of New York:

Ryan Nickum of Estately Blog writes:

NEW YORK: Am I bisexual? / Am I an alcoholic? / Am I a democrat? / Where my dogs at? / Is Cornell an Ivy League school? / What’s a millennial? / Who killed Biggie? / Who to invade next? / Who unfriended me? / How to meet women? / Who is Banksy? / When is Passover? / Is Mercury in retrograde? / Is wine gluten free? / How to ask for a raise? / Is Hillary Clinton left handed? / Is Bernie Sanders a communist?

Looks like New York is trying to decide which country we are going to invade next in our foreign policy. At least they are not as crazy or creepy as Georgia’s google inquiries.

Beth Howland Passes Away

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looks like Beth Howland Has Passed Away

I remember as a kid watching Beth Howland acting in the TV show “Alice.” Turns out she has passed away here recently on December 31st, 2015. It was never mentioned because she didn’t want a funeral or public announcement. I guess it was her way of not making much of a fuss. I found out about her passing away here recently in this article: Alice Actress Passes Away.

Beth Howland

Char Adams of “People Magazine” writes:

“Beth Howland, who played the accident-prone waitress Vera Gorman on the ’70s and ’80s sitcom Alice, has died at the age of 74.

Howland died on Dec. 31, 2015, in Santa Monica, California, after a battle with lung cancer, husband Charles Kimbrough told the New York Times, noting that his wife did not want a memorial or funeral service.

“It was the Boston side of her personality coming out,” Kimbrough said. “She didn’t want to make a fuss.”

He echoed the statement to the Associated Press, telling the news outlet that having no announcement or funeral was Howland’s choice.”

Well, I can kind of understand why she didn’t want to make a fuss. I am the same way as well. I have been married twice and each time I got married, I did a court house wedding without organizing a wedding or inviting anybody to a formal wedding. Organizing a wedding is a huge task and it costs a lot of money. Money that is hard to come by. Not to mention, people have busy lives and I love to see my family, but on the same token, it’s just a pain to organize a wedding and inviting all these people over and then people have to take time out of their busy lives. It just seems like a big hassle to me.

However, when I die, I do want a funeral though and I hope people take the time to attend my funeral and pay respects. So, for me, I would like a funeral so that people have an opportunity to say good bye and pay their respects before I am buried. So, on this choice, I would differ from Beth Howland even though I totally understand her reasoning. In any event, what is MOST important is that I pay my respects to Beth Howland given that she has passed away. I hope she rests in peace and I offer my condolences to her fans and family.

Simple Things Is What Makes Us Happy

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Simple Things Go A Long Ways In This World

So, I was reading this article about the “Chewbacca Lady” here: Chewbacca Lady. The article says:

Colby Itkowitz of the Washington Post writes:

“It is just a simple selfie video of a Texas mom laughing hysterically at the talking Chewbacca mask she bought herself as a birthday present.

But when Candace Payne wrestles the mask from its box and slips it on, and then can’t contain her childlike glee at its Wookiee sounds, viewers couldn’t help but share in her genuine excitement.

That’s why the original video, posted last Thursday, has been viewed on Facebook more than 130 million times.

There’s no exact science to what makes one video go viral online among the millions posted to social media every day. But studies have shown the content that makes people feel good is what is most clicked and most shared.”

So in this article, it just talks about how simple small things can bring a world of happiness. I am a simple man myself. My dad was also a simple man. He enjoyed simple pleasures like fishing and enjoying the beauty of the lake and just relaxing while in his boat fishing.

Simple Things

I am also a big Star Wars fan like this this lady is in the article. I thought it was just hilarious that the mask is built to where the wearer of the mask can cause it’s jaws to move and then it makes a wookie roar sound. I thought that was pretty funny! But yes, I really like this lady’s attitude and how she is just happy. Watching this video certainly made me laugh and brought a smile to my face. It’s those small, simple things that matter. Small simple things can chance the world it seems. For me, what brings me joy, is the simplicity of a small magic trick.

Recuperation Day Today!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Today Is A Recuperation Day For Me

I am feeling a little slow today so I think it’s my body and mind telling me I need to take it easy. So, that is what I plan on doing. Today will probably be a slow day, though I might just go ahead and work on a torn and restored newspaper trick I have been working on. Wife and I are also seeing about possibly having me go with her to Los Angeles for her work. It will give us an opportunity to see the Magic Castle. It would be an interesting trip to take if I am able to go. We’ll see.

Today, has been a bit of a slow day though I did run some errands. When I try to have a recuperation day, I try my best not to run errands, but sometimes, it’s just unavoidable. I just like to have a day where I do nothing and just laze around the house. I was just talking with my wife and it looks like we have a good chance to go to Los Angeles and we will visit the Magic Castle. We just have to get a few things in line tomorrow. Here is a link to the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California: The Magic Castle.

So, I guess this will be somewhat of a vacation. Not exactly like a full fledged vacation but somewhat like one. Still, it will be great to see California again!

Recuperation Day

I’ll probably take my wife out for a walk by the beach while I am at it. I remember last time I was in California I spent some time on the beach by the West Coast. It was very beautiful and nice! I think she will enjoy the beach out on the West Coast. Probably also take the time to visit a friend while we are at it. Anyway, time to end this blog post here!

Productive Week That I Have Had Recently

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

This Has Been A Really Productive Week

I have been working hard all this week. Ready to have today to just relax. Been on the road most of this week and staying extremely busy. I had a good night’s sleep but even with some good sleep I feel like just lazing around and taking a nap. It would probably be a good idea just to use today to recharge my batteries. Last weekend I worked a few gigs and then started right back up again on a weekday, Wednesday. I think the gig on Wednesday was in the same neighborhood where one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta lives. Very beautiful neighborhood!

Then there was a gig were the guest of honor was an 11 year old genius who has already graduated high school and has been accepted to Harvard University. Now that was pretty amazing! I was told that child geniuses are born gifted with exceptional intelligence and brilliance. They are not pushed to constantly work hard all the time. That would probably be bad for them. They just have the natural gift of genius. It is exceptional and remarkable. I have been truly fortunate and blessed to meet all these different people who are all remarkable and amazing themselves.

Productive Week

I would have never dreamed that I would get such a grand opportunity to meet such remarkable and amazing people in my travels as a performing magician. Not very many people get to meet celebrities like Diamond Dallas Page the wrestler or an 11 year old genius who has already graduated high school and been accepted to Harvard University. It’s hard for me to believe I am actually living this sort of life where I get to meet such extraordinary people. I am just ordinary guy, a common man who is used to living an ordinary life and a common life. Yet, to me, it seems I have been living an extraordinary life. I can only thank my friends and family for helping to make this kind of wonderful life that I have happen. I have much gratitude to my family and friends. Without them, it would be impossible for me to have such a wonderful life. I found this blog post on the fundamentals of a wonderful life. I think you will like it too: Fundamentals To A Wonderful Life.

So yes, I have had a very productive week. Sometimes, I get so busy working that I miss the remarkable things happening around me and it is only after it is all said and done and I reflect back on it do I realize just how remarkable things were and are.
