I Watched the Movie “Star Wars The Force Awakens!”

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I am a huge Star Wars fan and I have to say, I really enjoyed this Star Wars movie! It was awesome and I was very pleased and happy! A big congratulations to JJ Abrams! He did an outstanding job directing this movie. Too bad he won’t be directing the next few Star Wars movies in the saga. I don’t want to say too much about the movie because I don’t want to spoil it for others who have not seen the movie. I’ll touch on a few things in this blog post but won’t expand much on it because I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t seen the movie yet.

I think this movie did a really good job with the villian, Kylo Ren. It seems that JJ Abrams followed the traditional Star Wars and put some kind of mask on the villain’s face for this particular episode of “The Force Awakens.” Kylo Ren had his own mask much like Darth Vader did in the original Star Wars trilogy. I also really liked how he brought in actors and actresses from the original trilogy as well. So you will see Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in this particular movie. Again, I don’t want to get into too much detail and spoil it for others.

I know some people went and watched the movie 2 and 3 times! I thought that was amazing that people would spend that kind of money to see the movie a second or third time. I enjoyed the movie very much, but my time and money are also valuable and I can’t justify in my mind ever seeing a movie, in a movie theater, a second or third time no matter how good the movie is. But that’s just me personally. In any event, when you see the end of this movie, it will be obvious that more Star Wars movies are to come after this. Should be interesting and I hope the directors of the future upcoming Star Wars movies do just as good a job as JJ Abrams did!

Back To Work! Had A Wonderful Christmas And Got The Pool Cleaned Today!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I had a great holiday! Sure was glad to be able to spend time with the family and have a wonderful Christmas! Wife and I were able to spoil the nieces and nephew this Christmas so we were happy and proud to see the kids get some Christmas presents! It’s always a enjoy to watch the kids in your family get Christmas presents! Looks like I will also possibly be working a New Year’s Eve party this year. Sure am glad to have the work. Things have been going well for the company so I can’t complain.

I had been so busy this Christmas working a bunch of gigs that I hadn’t been able to scrub down my swimming pool liner like I usually do every week. When you have to work a bunch of various type gigs and do a great deal of traveling, it takes a toll after awhile. Your body needs to slow down again, relax and recuperate and get ready to get back into the swing of things. So, over Christmas, I have been able to slow down and relax and get back into the swing of things. And I feel great after working so hard to build my company to where it currently is and after having a wonderful, awesome Christmas!

So, today, was a day of scrubbing the pool liner like I normally do when my company doesn’t have me on the go. Now, the swimming pool looks great, has plenty of chemicals in the water like it needs, the water is sparkling clear and the pool liner is perfectly clean. It’s swimming ready for anybody who wants to jump in it! So, I have a lot to be thankful for. I think it’s important for me to offer up my most humble gratitude and thanks for everything that I have. I am truly fortunate and I have many many people to thank, including my family and my wife. If I didn’t have such a wonderful family and wife, I would be doomed.

Anyway, besides expressing my most humble gratitude to friends, family and clients of my company, I have been looking at creating a stage show and have some wonderful creative ideas. I am very excited! One idea I have is to use some mental-ism in my stage act where I will probably be using a regular cardboard box. Some other ideas I have is to do the “Shrinking Head” illusion. In addition to doing a stage show, I am looking at some new close up magic tricks. One is where I make a signed card appear in clear see through glass container that also has a card in it in full view the entire time as the volunteer signs the card. The card vanishes and then somehow, the card that was in full view the entire time in the glass container is dumped out and it is revealed to be the signed card. A total impossibility! So, very excited about adding some new magic acts. Plus I’ll be creating a Halloween and Christmas show for the year 2016. This will be a great deal of fun and very rewarding for me and my clients!

Our Company Would Like To Take The Time And Wish Everybody Happy Holidays

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

First thing I would like for my company to do is wish everybody a Happy Holidays! Our company would like to express our most humble thanks and gratitude to our past clients. Without our clients there is no Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C.

I have been extremely busy, working hard this past weekend. So, I am looking forward to spending time with my family and relaxing and recuperating. Our company is very busy around this time of year performing and booking out other magicians for the holiday season. Tomorrow, I have family members coming over with my nieces and nephew. We have a tree full of Christmas presents so the kids will make out like bandits this year as far as getting presents.

I also got my wife and other family members some Christmas gifts as well. My wife has been working hard hiding Christmas presents from me because she wants to surprise me. I think it’s funny! I do like being surprised though so it should be very fun! We have enough food to feed an army for the family coming over tomorrow on Christmas Eve to celebrate. The family is coming over to celebrate on Christmas Eve because they have to visit other family members on Christmas Day to celebrate with them too. So, they are making time for all family members plus everybody is exchanging gifts so should be great fun and joy!

Well, time for me to end this blog post here. Looking to relax for the rest of the day! Take care and wishing you a joyful holidays and a Happy New Year!

Been Playing “Wolf Among Us” on PS4, Busy Weekend Coming!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Have another busy weekend coming up full of gigs! I am very grateful, happy and glad to have the work! So, I am looking forward to having a great time! I got a pretty even set of gigs that is strolling and children’s magic shows. I have also been playing the PS4 game “Wolf Among Us.” Pretty cool game and very entertaining! The game takes place in “Fabletown” which is located in New York City’s West Manhattan. From what I have read, in order to better understand the meaning of the game, West Manhattan is the affluent side of NYC and is a residential area. It has a reputation of being home to New York City’s cultural, intellectual hub and artistic workers. While the Midtown and Lower Manhattan is home to the commercial businesses that many in the West Side of Manhattan work at. Supposedly, from what I understand, an exodus of all the various kinds of “Fables” took place. For example the wolf and little red riding hood and then the woodsman that beat the wolf. In the game, each of the fables take a human form and look like regular people. Real regular people don’t realize that the fables that have taken human form are actually fables. There is some kind of magic “glamour” that is used to disguise the fables as regular people in the game.

So, you play the “wolf” from “Little Red Riding Hood” in the game and in the secret town of Fables located in West Manhattan that has been disguised with magic “glamour” which makes “Fabletown” appear as a regular town that has regular people and not fables. And as the “Wolf” in this game, you are the sheriff of Fabletown. However, the fables, including the wolf, can all the sudden turn into their fable selves and look like regular people anymore if pushed too much. Kinda like the “Incredible Hulk” when he gets angry. He turns from a regular person to the Hulk. So, last night, I spent some time playing “Wolf Among Us” and got through the first episode. Very fun game! Loving it so far. I don’t want to give away too much to those who haven’t played it yet, but I got the game for like 20 bucks and it was money well spent!

So, now I am on the second episode of the game. Right now, I think I am beginning to understand the deeper meaning of the game, though, not all of it has come through yet. As I keep playing, I am sure I will get the deeper meaning of the game and how it relates to real life. After all, art is truth and comic book stories like “Wolf Among US” is art and it relates to the real world and the truth of the real world in some way I am sure. But I enjoy these kinds of games. They also have a “Back To Future” game too that I wouldn’t mind playing. I have watched a few broadcasts on PS4 broadcast live and the game seems like a lot of fun too. Sooo many great games on gaming consoles these days. It’s just amazing!

Helping Fellow Magicians Out With Some Marketing Skills, Company Goals

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Even though us magicians compete with each other on the market, at the end of the day, their is plenty of work for everybody and I don’t mind helping out other magicians in their marketing efforts or their shows and I hope my fellow magicians in turn don’t mind helping me out. I also like to think of magicians as part of a brotherhood/sisterhood at the end of the day. That at the end of the day, we are all one big family. So, even though we compete with each other in the markets, there is plenty of work to go around for everybody and we all help each other out at the end of the day because fellow magicians are all one big family.

Today, had a buddy of mine who is also a magician asked me about Google Adwords. He is currently writing a full fledged Google Adwords campaign. I personally use the Google Adwords Express campaign mode because it’s just easier to use. I took a look at the website to see if there is much difference between the two and there really doesn’t seem to be much difference. So, I prefer to use Google Adwords Express. Here is a website that compares the two: http://ow.ly/VVXDY.

I have been having some of my fellow magicians also help me out as far as improv and coming up with a stage show. I need to take some courses at Dad’s Garage. This will help me become a better magician. So one of the things that is on my “to do” list is taking a course at Dad’s Garage. My gosh, I will be really busy. This company of mine has been working me hard! But I am very glad and grateful to have the work. Another one of the goals I have is to get a darn laptop computer! I have been having competing demands on my company budget plus family events which demand money which has been making it hard for me to get my company to buy a laptop computer. Having a laptop computer will enable me to blog when I am on the road performing. I think blogging is extremely important. So, I want to keep up with my blogging efforts, but right now, because my company doesn’t have a laptop computer, I can’t blog when I am on the road. So, one of my company goals for the year 2016 is to have my company buy a good laptop computer.

Christmas Tree Pictures and Great Weekend!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Had another great weekend of performing! Sure was glad to have all this work and all the guests I performed for were totally AWESOME! Most of the gigs I performed this past weekend was for strolling close up magic gigs and my last magic show was a children’s magic show. I had the opportunity to float two birthday children on my “Magic Flying Carpet Illusion” yesterday for the gig I performed for. Looking forward to this weekend, it’s going to be another busy weekend. January might be a little slow, but I am working to get the calendar filled for January as well and also trying to target the tradeshow market.

I also wanted to share some pictures too from my Thanksgiving weekend as well as the Christmas tree that my wife and I put up. Here is the Christmas tree the wife and I put up about a week ago:

I remember blogging about my wife and I taking a trip to Tennessee to visit my dad’s side of the family. I wanted to share some pictures of the Grand Old Opera Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee which has their place decorated with various Christmas lights. My wife and I really had a blast visiting with the family and even rented a huge van from Enterprise that could seat 15 people. Anyway, here are a few pictures too from the hotel. This is a picture of lights constructed like Christmas trees:

Here is a picture of a huge Christmas tree at the hotel:

Wife and I Will Be Putting Up The Christmas Tree Today!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

The wife and I have been having a hard time finding time to get the Christmas tree up. Finally, today, we’ll be able to do it! We unpacked our old Christmas tree but it was broken so we had to go to Wal Mart and buy another Christmas tree last night. We managed to get ourselves a pre-lit Christmas tree. Right now the Christmas tree is up, but we still need to decorate it. I’ll probably post a picture of it once it’s fully decorated and lit tomorrow.

I’m really looking forward to Christmas and spending time with my family. We are also certainly glad to have had our Christmas shopping done too. One of my early Christmas presents was a sound bar for my PS4’s 1080p TV. In the past, I have been playing my video games using a surround sound headset because my TV didn’t have a great sound system, but then, because the headset was wireless the batteries would run low after a little while of playing. Plus, my ears would get hot and sweaty because of wearing the headset.

So, now that I have finally gotten a sound bar which puts out some great sound, I don’t have to wear the headset, don’t have to worry about the batteries running low and I can actually fully enjoy the gaming experience of my PS4 and the games I play on it. It’s much better playing my video games since I got a decent sound bar and can fully hear good sound coming from the games without wearing a headset.

Been playing a lot of Fallout 4 and Star Wars Battlefront. Both games are great and I usually play the Walker Assault on Star Wars Battlefront while also been playing some of the side quests and main quests for the Fallout 4. I also got a few new games as well such as “Wolf Amoung Us” and played that game a little bit. It’s a pretty good game too which is mainly choice and story driven.

Performed At Applebee’s Last Night And Looking At Designing A Christmas Show

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Performed last night at Applebee’s. I got to try out the new balloon pump that I bought and it works extremely well and is far more reliable than the old balloon pumps I have been using. It sure is easier to pump up balloon animals with the new pumps I bought a week or two ago and they don’t break hardly at all. So I won’t have to constantly spend money replacing broken balloon pumps. That’s a huge help.

I have also been getting some help on developing a stage show. A few magician friends of mine who have been performing stage magic for a while have been giving me a few tips. Sure am glad to get some help from them! One of the things I plan on doing is watching two DVDs that I have. Magician and illusionist Andrew Mayne came up with these illusions and many of these illusions are cheap to build. So, my plan is to go ahead and invest some money in buying the materials to construct some illusions for a stage show. Should be a lot of fun to build some of the cool illusions and then design the stage show!

Another two kinds of shows I am looking to design for the children’s market is a Halloween magic show and a Christmas magic show. Both of these themes should be really cool and fun to design! I want to be sure that what I construct is a show that is entirely different than what I am currently performing. I think it’s important as a performer to constantly develop new material. I know some of the old timers would insist on doing the same show, but I think it’s unwise to perform the same show over and over again as people get tired of seeing the same material plus, the performer himself likes to try something new and different and it keeps the fun in performing magic going! So right now, I am looking at coming up with some new material that is very amazing and yet, still different from the current material I am performing. So, as you can see, I have no shortage of work for me to do to keep myself busy.

Sure Did Enjoy Performing This Weekend

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Sure did enjoy performing this weekend! Had a great and awesome time. I had written a script for one of my performances that talked about the benefits that a particular client had to offer to their clients as part of my magical presentation. Boy, writing a script sure helped in that particular case! In some cases, writing a script is a good idea while in other cases, it’s best to use an outline of your act because that particular act requires that you interact with your audience and be good at improv. When it comes to a children’s birthday party, I think using an outline while also studying how to be silly and funny is the best approach, while when it comes to performing at trade shows for example, your better off as a performing to do more than just have an outline, but write out an actual script to go by.

This weekend were all Christmas shows. Got a chance to perform for the American Legion too, so I was very pleased to be able to perform for our nation’s veterans at the American Legion. I did strolling close up magic and they absolutely loved it! I was glad too! I have also been performing some family Christmas shows. With family Christmas shows I do a combination of magic tricks that entertain very young kids and also the teenagers and adults. I really enjoy performing the “floating magic carpet” illusion.

I plan to add some more illusions to my teenage and adult parlor magic shows plus get some illusions together for the stage show. It’s going to be a lot of hard work. I am probably going to have to build them myself because the cost is very expensive if I don’t. So, to save money, I don’t have much choice but to build the illusions myself. Probably look at getting some of the blueprints on them and then going and buying the materials to build the illusions. Hopefully, it won’t be too hard to do. I am sure there are some great, simple illusions for me to build.

Wife and I Will Be Heading Out For A Weekend Full of Gigs

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Tomorrow, the wife and I will be heading out for a weekend full of gigs. We’ll be traveling to Atlanta, GA and then to Alabama and then back to Atlanta again. So, we’ll be on the road and performing. I’m looking forward to it to be honest. Really enjoy performing on the road. All my gigs booked so far this weekend are close up magic shows. Might have another gig booked today on top of that, we’ll see.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, my family did most of their Christmas shopping. The wife and my mother bought me a Christmas gift and I have no idea what it is. I am always curious and trying to figure out what it is exactly they got me for Christmas. I am a like a little kid again at times when it comes to such things.

Ever since we got home from Thanksgiving up in Tennessee, it’s been very busy. Just a pile of personal errands to run a pile of things to do for my company. Things are getting done so the load of work is lightening a little bit. That’s always a good thing. I’ll need to test the swimming pool water today and scrub the pool down as well. Probably have to add some chemicals. Looks like most of the leaves have fallen off the trees in the back yard so I won’t have to worry as much about leaves getting in the swimming pool water. I do a pretty good job of staying on top of keeping the leaves out of the pool.

I maintenance the pool year round instead of winterizing it. The reason for this is because if you winterize it, the water can turn green or black and it will be a great deal more work to do to get cleaned back up to normal standards. So, I simply prefer to maintenance the pool and keep it clean year round. It’s a challenge at times in staying on top of the leaves falling in the swimming pool during the fall time but I have been able to keep up with it pretty good. Well, have plenty of work to do and plenty of gigs to work tomorrow so I will be signing off now. You guys have a great day!
