Allergies and Sinus Cold

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Well, I have come down, I guess with allergies and a sinus cold. I’ll be alright! This coming Wednesday, the wife and I will be going to Tennessee to visit family for Thanksgiving. I am debating about buying a board game called Pandemic. Pandemic has some good reviews as far as a family type board game. This kind of game might be ideal for playing with family members while visiting them in Tennessee for the Thanksgiving holidays if we have any down time. If not, well we’ll still have a good time!

Right now, I am just looking forward to the holidays, spending time with the family and trying to get over this sinus and allergy cold. It’s not too bad. Anyway, I hate doing a short blog post, but it seems I have much to do to get ready for the the Thanksgiving holidays! Take care!

Had A Great Time Performing Last Night

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Well, I had a great time performing a children’s magic show last night. The kids really seemed to enjoy the show and at the end of the show, I floated one of the kids on the “floating magic carpet” illusion. It’s basically an illusion where a kid floats on a small magic carpet and the magician passes a hoop over the child a couple of times to prove the kid is not being supported in any way. But I had a great time and it was a joy to perform! This weekend, I will be at Applebees tomorrow doing strolling magic and balloon animals. Then, I have a private gig in the Atlanta area. After the private gig in the Atlanta area, I will finally have some Thanksgiving vacation time! Yippeee! SOOOO happy to actually have some vacation time and the money to actually enjoy a vacation.

I’ll be going up to Tennessee for vacation to spend the Thanksgiving holidays. Wife and I will get a rental car with Enterprise and drive up there and then we’ll spend Thanksgiving day up there eating turkey and hanging out with the whole family. The ladies in the family will then go out shopping on “BLACK FRIDAY!” I doubt I will be going with them though. My brother in law has went with them in the past and if he goes I might go. But I also don’t like the idea of fighting the crowds either on “Black Friday.” I know how crazy the stores can be on those days. Well, anyway, sure is nice the way things are going for me these days. Things are looking up and great! Very happy! Time to end this blog post here!

Got Star Wars Battlefront Last Night!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I am a big Star Wars fan so I was very happy to get Star Wars Battlefront last night. Got the deluxe edition. Waited in line at Best Buy to get it! So, got home and it’s not a bad game! Really enjoy it. I especially like how you can play Supremacy or the Walker Assault. So, they got all kinds of different scenarios you can play. Anyway, looking forward to watching the new Star Wars Movie as well, “The Force Awakens.” I hope this will be a great movie in the trilogy. Anyway, have a gig to get ready for tomorrow. Time for me to end this very short blog post here!

Black Friday Is Coming And Nothing Is Ever Truly Free

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I have no idea if I will go shopping with my wife or not on “Black Friday.” I’m not so sure it would be worth the trouble of doing so. I do know that the ladies in my family up in Tennessee usually go shopping on “Black Friday.” Sometimes my brother in law will go shopping with the ladies, so I might go just to hang out with him because he’s a cool guy to hang out with. The rest of the guys in my family tend to stay away from shopping on “Black Friday” because it’s so crazy in the stores. For me, it’s pretty crazy to see people camped out a day or two ahead of time just to get some good deals on products being sold. I just assume spend the extra money than camp out and wait a few days to get a better deal. Either way you pay. Nothing in this world is free. You either pay by giving up a lot of your time by camping out and waiting so that you can get in there and get a good deal or you pay by paying fair market value for the products you are wanting to buy but not having to wait in line and camp out a few days ahead of time. Either way you are going to pay. Nothing is free.

It kinda reminds me of this article I read about how in government jobs or in the military, supervisors or commanders will go ahead and work their people extra hours because of the “free” labor. The government employees or service members are not paid by the hour but just get a standard monthly wage depending on their pay grade. So, a lot of supervisors and commanders will just work them a whole bunch of hours. In the private sector as long as they are not salaried employees, they would have to pay those workers for the extra hours. But not so in government jobs where those jobs would normally be hourly jobs in the private sector. So, the government will work those workers extra hours because it’s “free” labor. But like I said, nothing in this world is free. By working them extra hours, the government loses productivity because those workers are over-worked. This also harms their retention rates too and increases the prospect that workers made critical mistakes on the job because they are being over-worked and those critical mistakes cost money, plus having to retrain new employees because retention rates suffer costs money. Either way, the government pays. Nothing is free.

Was On My PS4 Yesterday In The Broadcast Section

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I was on my PS4 yesterday, checking out some of the games being broadcasted. Saw some people broadcasting Fallout 4. Looked really great! It seems they have made some changes from Fallout 3. I am kinda considering buying it whereas before, I wasn’t. It looks like it will be a really great RPG games. I have always enjoyed RPG games and I am anxiously awaiting Star Wars release right now which is on November 17th. Already fully paid for the Star Wars Battlefront deluxe edition plus got the season pass, which was pretty expensive. Hopefully, the season pass will be worth the money I spent. It costed almost as much as a brand new game! Can you believe that!?

Well, I might stop by Best Buy today and crowse around to see if Fallout 4 is still in stock. I might buy it but I haven’t made up my mind fully yet. Watching some of the broadcasts, it looks like you can build your own settlement and encampment in the game, which is a really cool concept and great idea in my opinion. Fallout 4 has a Season Pass as well which is not as expensive as Star Wars Battlefront’s season pass. I just might get the game.

Now here is something off topic I just found on marketwatch. Very proud that our country, America, comes in second place world wide as far as being generous. Looks like we got beat out by Myanmar whose people give a lot to Buddhist monks and temples for upkeep of the temples. Pretty interesting. Anyway, here is the article: .

Rainy Weekend Full of Gigs in Atlanta

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Had a rainy weekend full of gigs this past weekend in Atlanta. I was at the Skyview from 7pm-11pm this past Friday and then I was there again from 12pm-4pm on Sunday. Both days were pretty rainy and Sunday was chilly and rainy. So, Skyview wasn’t too busy, but I have gotten much better at building a crowd in street magic. Pretty interesting how street magic works. It’s an art in and of itself and I really enjoy it. It can be great fun being a street performer. You have to have confidence and know which crowds to approach when performing street magic. The old “read, relate and repertoire” comes into play when approaching a crowd for street magic. I find it’s important to make sure you approach a crowd of at least two or three people because people feel much safer being approached by a stranger wanting to perform street magic for them when they are in a crowd or group of people. I personally won’t approach a person who is by themselves because I feel it could potentially frighten them given they don’t know you.

My gig on Saturday was really awesome! It was for an Asian cultural event. I was performing strolling close up magic for a group of folks. It was sponsored by General Electric and it was at Tritt Elementary School. I really enjoyed the Asian festival and it was really cool how they had all this food you could eat and various different performances and acts you could watch. I really enjoyed the Dragon Dancing act where dancers danced underneath a huge dragon costume. In Chinese culture, from what I was told, it was meant to ward off evil spirits from villages. Of course, not only did I perform strolling close up magic at this event, but I also performed my floating magic carpet levitation illusion which was great fun! The kids and adults really enjoyed this particular illusion. They had a stage where I could perform it. Parents were taking pictures of their child floating on the “Floating Magic Carpet.”

It’s been a long weekend and I think I am going to end this blog post here. Y’all take care and have a great afternoon!

Country Music Award Winners

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I don’t pay any attention to the country music awards myself. However, I know it’s a popular topic with a lot of people. I am a fan of the older country music, especially Hank Williams Jr. and Ronnie Milsap or Mickey Gilley or Charlie McClain. Seems that Chris Stapleton won the Male Vocalist of the Year. He was performing with Justin Timberlake on stage: Anyway, here are some of the winners from the Country Music Awards:

It’s Good To Have A Some Time To Slow Down

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Right now, things have slowed down a bit after an extremely busy weekend. I’m glad too. I feel much better. Fully recuperated and feel fully energized. If it’s one thing I have learned it is the importance of energy in running a business. I go to bed early these days so I can get a good night’s sleep and wake up early so I am fully energized and ready for a productive day for my business. Today, I think I am going to call some of the businesses I know exhibit at a trade show. I want to be sure I know what I am going to say too. But it’s a priority to get a trade show gig. I also plan on doing some magic at Starbucks today, just to practice some new magic tricks. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to stick with tricks that you are extremely good at, but it keeps the art of magic fun and interesting by constantly learning some kind of new trick or presentation or concept in the art of magic. Sticking with the old, tried and true works well, but it can also be boring after a while and it’s important to try something new and innovate.

One of the new and innovative things I am doing is looking to add some small illusions to my adult and teenage magic show. I also want to see about possibly renting some illusions for trade show magic too. So, in addition to having some really cool close up magic, I will also have some interesting illusions suitable for a parlor close up magic show. I think these illusions really add to the show and make the show far more interesting. I already have a few illusions in mind to accomplish this end. Just waiting for Christmas to end before making any purchases!
