Feel Great This Morning!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I feel great this morning! I went to bed early last night and got up early this morning. Benjamin Franklin, back in the day, had an old saying: “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” I have to say I agree with that. I certainly feel so much better going to bed early and getting up early after getting at least 8 hours sleep. I think because I chose a reasonable hour to go to bed and a reasonable hour to get up, it helps make me feel soooooo much better and on top of that, I feel energized and ready to go. I can just feel it that I am truly ready to work and feel great and I think this will no doubt make me much more productive today.

One goal I need to work is losing some weight. I lost some weight some time ago and then I just hit a plateau. So, right now, I am trying to break that plateau. Losing and managing weight has always been a challenge for me and I am sure it’s challenge for a lot of people out there. I will do some walking today. Another reason why it’s been a challenge for me to break the plateau I am on is the fact as an entertainer, I do a great deal of traveling. When you are on the road, traveling to gigs a lot, it’s very difficult to lose weight and it’s very easy to gain weight. I know a lot of truck drivers face this very same issue. It’s very tough for truck drivers to stay healthy because of the fact they are on the road all the time.

Yet, I have a computer science degree. A Bachelor of Science in computer science. But really to be a good computer programmer and do it well, in my opinion, you need to be an introvert. Introverts are much better suited for computer programming because you have to spend an incredible amount of time in front of a computer screen writing code all the time. Sure, you might have to deal with program managers or have meetings to go over software requirements, but at the end of the day, the productive computer programmers are introverts who spend most of their life in front of a computer. The best computer programmers I met wrote their own stuff on their own free time and that’s what made them great programmers and command a decent salary from private companies.

Me, I am an extrovert. I am a people person and I am very outgoing so because of this, I am not well suited for computer programming despite the fact I have a computer science degree. Funny how that works sometimes how people go to school and study a field and then never even go into their field after graduating college. I will say though, I am glad I got a college education and it was well worth it given that I graduated debt free thanks to the GI Bill. Most people are not as fortunate to graduate debt free from college. It’s very tough to do these days and I feel for those who are in a lot of debt to student loans. Anyway, because I am an extrovert, I enjoy the performing arts much better and entertaining people and just talking to people. I am more of a people person and so, I think I am most certainly better suited to the entertainment arts such as the art of magic for example. Well, I think this is a good spot to end this blog post here. Kinda glad to get in a good blog post this time. Much easier to do with going to bed early and getting up early in the morning.

Performed At Skyview in Atlanta, GA and Traveled to Alabama for A Private Show

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Well, I have to tell you, I am exhausted after a full weekend of some serious gigging! Yesterday, I turned in the rental car and I kinda feel that today I need to take it slow. That being said, really enjoyed myself performing at the Skyview, doing magic and balloon animals. I have to say, I have worked tremendously hard this weekend and now, I am definitely ready to recuperate. I also had to travel to Alabama this past weekend for a private gig. After finishing my performance at the Skyview entertaining guests who were looking to get on the ferris wheel there, I got a hotel and this particular hotel was really nice! It had the fell of one of those classic hotels with wooden floors and stairs and nice carpet. It was just a wonderful hotel stay. I felt great and refreshed and ready to go back to work after my stay there.

Then, I traveled right into Alabama for my next gig! One the way to my next gig, I went through Talladega this past Saturday. MAN! It was like the WHOLE WORLD was there! They had races there this past Saturday! One of my cousins told me one of his kids was there at the races. I mean, at the Talladega race track, they had multi-storied bleachers/stadium around the race track and it was HUGE! All you could see was just simply a massive sea of human faces as far as the eye could see as I drove by the race track on the interstate.

There was also just a HUGE massive lot around the race track stadium where thousands and thousands of RVs were parked there and packed together like sardines. Just a MASSIVE amount of people there at Talladega! Soooo many RV’s and people. You don’t realize how popular NASCAR really is until you drive by Talladega and see the endless sea of people and RVs packed together like sardines ready to watch a great race. I imagine the race track is pretty big, perhaps one or two miles. I don’t know because personally, I am not a big NASCAR fan, but you can certainly tell, there are many people in this world that are!

My Apologies For Missing A Few Days Blogging!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Hello everybody! I try very hard to blog everyday, but these past few days, been getting hammered with a lot of work at once to where it’s been really tough to get on here and blog. So, I hope you guys understand. I am not like the best blogger in the world, but I think it’s extremely important to get a blog post in once a day if you can. Sometimes that’s easier said than done! A few times, when I went to sleep I just passed out big time! Slept for 12 hours once and I think it was because I have been so busy and working so hard, my body just forced to me to shut down and sleep a little longer than usual just so that it can recharge it’s batteries and recover! However, I am happy and glad to have the work! But on the same token, there is no such thing as easy money and making money requires a lot of work and can be stressful at times and require responsibility.

Anyway, one of the things I want to blog about is the upcoming Star Wars Title, Star Wars Battlefront AND the new Star Wars movie! Looks like the Star Wars VII The Force Awakens as Kylo Ren as the villain in this particular movie. From what I read of the new movie, he is like the anti-thesis to Luke Skywalker. So, it looks like this particular Star Wars episode takes place after IV, V and VI. Looks like it’s going to be a great Star Wars movie. You can check out the trailor here on YouTube:

Those of you who have been keeping up with my blog know that I am a big video gamer. So, one game they have coming out is Star Wars Battlefront. I played the beta version of this game on my PS4 and I am really looking forward to this game! This game is going to be boatloads of fun my friends! The Beta was really awesome and a lot of fun! So, I went ahead and pre-ordered the deluxe version of the game and I hear they have a season pass coming out. Hopefully they do! I am sure to get the season pass if it turns out it’s true that they got one coming out for the game.

When I played the beta version of Star Wars Battlefront, I played the multi-player version for the Battle of Hoth. I am sure most of you seen Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back where the Empire had these huge monster looking walkers and were attacking the rebel base on the Planet of Hoth in the Star Wars Universe. So, the beta version of the video game takes place on Hoth and the game plays very similar to the Battlefield series. If you have ever played Battlefield, you know what I mean. Basically, you can play with other other human players as a team online either for the Empire or the Rebels. Both sides have human players playing as a team to try and defeat the other side. Both sides also have their “heroes” like Darth Vader for the Empire and Luke Skywalker for the Rebels. You can also get into the Imperial walkers or TIE fighters that are flying around in the game as well as X-Wings, and the other mini fighters that you can use to harpoon and tie the Imperial Walkers legs up. It’s a lot of fun and pretty exciting game requiring a lot of teamwork. I really enjoyed the game. If you enjoy the Battlefield games and you are a Star Wars fan, this game is a must have!

Star Wars “The Force Awakens” Discussion

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Seems like “Star Wars The Force Awakens” is coming out in December sometime. CNN is reporting that some of the tickets are already on sale here: . I think in this YouTube video, I like how they talk about where villains come from and how villains don’t just wake up one morning and say “Ohh, I am evil and I am going to do evil things.” They sort of evolve into evil people whose goal is to gain power and all the things that come with power. Like, you know, you look back on evil figures like Hitler and the Nazis or the Soviet dictator Stalin who is also one of the evil figures in history, they were people who viewed themselves as heroes in their own story. And I liked how this YouTube video touched on this when discussing Kylo Ren, the villain of Star Wars “The Force Awakens.” Here is the YouTube video: Anyway, I have an eye appointment to go to so I have to end this blog post here. Hope you enjoy the YouTube video discussion on Kylo Ren!

Would Like To See Movie “Bridge of Spies”

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Well looks like the movies have a new Tom Hanks one out. “Bridge of Spies” is the name of the movie that just recently came out into theaters. I would like to go watch it because I enjoy history, political intrigue and stories based on real spy events. I am also a big fan of Tom Hanks. I think Tom Hanks is a great actor! The movie takes place during the Cold War. During the Cold War, the Soviet Union had captured one of our pilots, Francis Gary Powers after shooting down his U-2 spy plane and sentencing him to prison. So the movie is about how a New York lawyer James Donovan played by Tom Hanks, is recruited by the CIA to negotiate his release. Should be an interesting movie to watch. Hopefully, I will find the time to watch it! Been working quite a bit! Anyway, time to end this blog post here.

Looking To Add This Cool Illusion To My Teenage and Adult Parlor Close Up Magic Show

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I have been making some improvements on my current teenage and adult parlor close up magic show. One of the things I plan adding to the two shows is the an illusion involving a small head chest and some daggers. The illusion looks really cool! Basically, the performer takes the small head chest, puts it on the volunteer’s head and then closes somewhat of a door to where the audience can’t see the volunteer’s head anymore. The magician then takes a whole bunch of small knives and then inserts them through the box where the volunteer’s head is at. After doing so, the magician opens the door and it is revealed that the volunteer’s head has magically vanished and the audience can see all the small knives going through where the volunteer’s head was! The magician then closes the door again, removes the knives and then opens the door and it is revealed that the volunteer’s head has magically re-appeared and is smiling. The magician removes the box from the volunteer’s head and the volunteer doesn’t have a scratch on him or her. Excellent illusion! So, I think I am going to be adding this to my magic show! I am really looking forward to using this particular illusion.

I noticed in my magic shows, I have been mixing it up a bit between close up magic and illusions that are good for the living room. These illusions are not too big but add some element of family room entertainment that includes a more miniaturized form of stage illusion so that a family can enjoy a magic show which would include close up magic and illusions, right in their own home without having to go to a stage or theater to watch illusions performed by an illusionist. I think this approach to family or party entertainment is an innovative way to perform the art of magic for families and parties. It’s not really “new” per se, but something that doesn’t seem to have been worked on a great deal in the magic community. I think I am going to work on this aspect of magic entertainment some more and improve upon it!

Watched An Exciting Game Between the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Worked hard this weekend after traveling to Birmingham, Alabama for a gig and then came back home. It was a lot of traveling going to and from Birmingham, Alabama and back to my hometown. After a long day of traveling and gigging for my company, I had to get up in the morning and return the rental vehicle and then head over to my brother in law’s house to help him move to a new place. So, I did some heavy lifting of furniture for him. In the process we were catching the Atlanta Falcons versus the Washington Redskins. Very exciting game! Wide receiver Julio Jones did a great job of catching the ball for the Atlanta Falcons! For a while the Atlanta Falcons weren’t ahead but then they came from behind and then won the game in overtime 25-19. If you guys missed this game, you missed an exciting game! I enjoyed catching some of the game while helping my brother in law move some of his stuff from his house. Anyway, here is a great article on the game:

With the game on the line, Robert Alford relied on lessons learned in his film study of Kirk Cousins’ three-step drops.

Then Alford ended the game.

Alford returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown, lifting the undefeated Atlanta Falcons to a 25-19 win over the Washington Redskins in overtime Sunday.

The Redskins had the first possession of OT and Cousins moved the team to midfield. On second and 8 from the 50, Ryan Grant slipped while trying to adjust to Cousins’ pass. Alford was in perfect position for the interception before racing down the sideline for the touchdown.

“I trusted my instincts and the film study,” Alford said. “… I just jumped it, and it was there for me to make a play on. I looked back to see who was around me, and once there was nobody around me, it was off to the end zone.”

Near the end of his sprint toward the goal line, Alford held the ball high with both hands and did a high-step, Deion Sanders style.

John Lennon’s 75th Birthday!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Well, it seems that John Lennon would have had his 75th birthday yesterday. I found this article on John Lennon from the USA Today:

John Lennon would have been 75 years old today. In honor of the occasion, we’ve compiled 75 quotes and lyrics attributed to the late rock icon . Enjoy, and remember.

On the Beatles:

“We’re not Beatles to each other, you know. It’s a joke to us. If we’re going out the door of the hotel, we say, ‘Right! Beatle John! Beatle George now! Come on, let’s go!’ We don’t put on a false front or anything.” — Look, 1966

“Paul (McCartney) and I made a deal when we were 15. There was never a legal deal between us, just a deal we made when we decided to write together that we put both our names on it, no matter what.” — Playboy, published in 1981

“I said we were more popular than Jesus, which is a fact.” — Look, 1966

“We were really professional by the time we got to the States; we had learned the whole game. When we arrived here we knew how to handle the press; the British press were the toughest in the world and we could handle anything. We were all right.” — Rolling Stone, 1971

“You see, we’re influenced by whatever’s going. Even if we’re not influenced, we’re all going that way at a certain time. If we played a Stones record now — and a Beatles record — and we’ve been way apart, you’d find a lot of similarities. We’re all heavy. Just heavy.” — Rolling Stone, 1968

Hope you enjoy the article and the quotes attributed to the rock icon.

Strolling Close Up Magic At Applebee’s, Perry GA, 7pm-9pm

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Just wanted to let you guys know that I will be at Applebee’s tonight, October 9th, 100 Valley Drive, Perry, GA performing strolling close up magic and doing balloon animals for the kids. I would encourage you guys to come and dine at Applebee’s. They really do have some great food and I think your family will truly enjoy the magic and balloon animals. I have been performing there probably about 3 years now, going on my 4th year. Anyway, I hope to see some of you guys there!

I will be heading over to Alabama as well this weekend performing a close up magic show. I have been very pleased with how my close up magic show has progressed and it’s been a lot of fun gaining more experience performing a close up magic show for adults and teenagers. My strolling close up magic has always been very strong, but I think my regular close up magic show has improved in how it is presented. I am also looking to add some illusions to my regular close up magic show for teenagers and adults (illusions that are good for a living room setting rather than a theatrical stage setting). Well, hope everybody has a great weekend! Take care!
