New York Yankee’s Walloped The Atlanta Braves!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I was booked by a client for the Atlanta Braves game and man did I have the most AWESOME TIME!  I tell you what, going to a Braves baseball game sure is great fun and well worth it!  I plan on taking my family up to a few Braves games.  Actually, I am probably going to see about getting a season pass for next year.   Baseball season is almost over so I will have to get the season pass for next year in 2016.  I haven’t been keeping up with baseball that much.  But after having a client book me to do strolling magic at the game, I have turned into a big Braves baseball fan and I want to go to more games!  So, I am not sure exactly when or what month baseball season will start back up.  I was told baseball season usually ends at the end of September.

When I first got to Tuner Field it was pouring rain this past Sunday.  It was tough to see outside the car window and was mass chaos and confusion at first.  But after a little awhile, the storm cleared it and it turned into a great day!  The client really had a great time with the strolling magic and I have to say, I had a blast performing at the Braves game!  I just had a tremendous amount of fun and the audience was just absolutely amazing and great!  I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Then after I finished performing my gig, I got to watch the Atlanta Braves get walloped by the New York Yankees 20-6.   Ohh well, I am still a loyal Braves fan, even when they get wallopped or have a losing year or  a losing streak.  I remember back in the day, in the 1990s when they went from “worst to first” and in 1995 won the World Series.  It seems like right now the Atlanta Braves is having a rough go, but that’s OK, they will eventually get back to first again like they did in the 1990s.  I was told the manager from back in the day, Bobby Cox, is now in the Hall of Fame.  I am certain he earned it.  I remember my dad getting mad a few times at Bobby Cox when watching the Braves play on TV back then.  Amazing how fast time goes by!

I also took the opportunity to buy some souvenirs for my wife and my nephew.  Got my wife an Atlanta Braves miniature teddy bear and my nephew an official Atlanta Braves baseball.  My wife loves teddy bears and I think my nephew will like getting an official Atlanta Braves baseball.  Probably be a bad idea for him to try to play baseball with it.  Probably best for him just to save it and keep it as a souvenir and perhaps keep it in the package that it came in.  Well, I am exhausted and have been working my butt off this weekend.  It’s time for me to slow down a little bit and relax!

Had A Great Time Performing At Applebee’s Last Night, Working Tonight and Atlanta Braves Tomorrow!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I’m actually pretty excited and stoked for this weekend of working.  Sure will be glad to be working the Atlanta Braves this coming Sunday on August 30th.  I was checking the weather and it’s supposed to rain this Sunday.  I am hoping the game doesn’t get rained out!  Last night I honestly had the most awesome time.  I am getting much better with my balloon animals.  I am moving on to learning even more balloon animal shapes now that I have gotten pretty good with my current balloon animal shapes.

So, I am really looking forward to learning some new cool shapes.  Who would have ever thought that balloon twisting could be so much fun?  Plus the table side magical performances last night at Applebee’s were a huge hit.  So folks were getting some really good value with both great magic and some professionally made balloon twisted animals.  And I had a blast doing it all!  I am a pretty lucky guy to have my profession.  This, is happiness to me.

Anyway, tonight is going to be a private gig and looking forward to this booking.  It’s going to be a formal close up magic show.  Then, tomorrow, I will be moving on to the Atlanta Braves game, which I am looking forward to.  Right now, it’s time for me to load up my rental car and get ready to head out!  Everybody, have an awesome weekend!

Decided To Reward My Wife And I After Working Hard

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I decided it was time to reward my wife and I after we have been working hard.  My wife plans on getting a Talisman expansion set for herself to the main game.  She is a board gamer like myself and I got her hooked on the game Talisman a long time ago.  Her son, my step son also loves Talisman and he owns the game as well.  He lives on his own and does well for himself.  Me, I bought myself the video game “Batman Arkham Knight”, the season pass to it and “Until Dawn,” which “Until Dawn” can only be played on the PS4.  It looks like a really cool horror, survival video game.  Batman Arkham Knight looks like it’s going to be a really cool game too.  Right now, I am installing the season pass to the game.  Haven’t had a chance yet to install “Until Dawn” but I will do that next.  Looking forward to playing both of these games.

It sure is nice to work extremely hard and after saving, investing and keeping money set aside for future and current expenses, it’s nice to have some money left over to spend on something you like and enjoy and believe me, I have worked extremely hard.  But working extremely hard like that really makes you appreciate legitimate wealth and those who truly work hard, save wisely and invest wisely to earn that wealth.  Part of wealth I have discovered, it’s just like serving in the US Army and preparing for a mission, you have to plan very carefully and think of all the possibilities and be prepared for the worst.  Earning, keeping and generating wealth is very much the same way.  You have to have a plan.  If you don’t have a plan, as we used to say in the US Army, fail to plan, plan to fail.  Planning is SOOOOOOO IMPORTANT.

I also have a VERY BUSY weekend coming out.  Been booking out other magicians through my company and also have plenty of gigs for myself to work.  So, I got A LOT of work to be doing this weekend.  I’ll be performing at Applebee’s tomorrow in Perry GA from 7pm-9pm then a private gig on Saturday and then I will be working an Atlanta Braves game on Sunday.  Needless to say, I am got my work cut out for me but it’s going to be plenty of fun too!  I also have a lot of office work to do to some for my clients and other work for marketing and administrative duties for the company.  Anyway, time to end this blog post here!  You guys have an awesome day and weekend!

Planning And Adaptability Sure Does Pay Off!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

One of the things I have learned is that taking the time to really sit down, set some goals and develop a plan to achieve those goals really, really does pay off in the long term.  I have also learned, that A LOT goes into planning.  A lot of hard work planning too, but ultimately, in the long term, it sure does pay off and relieve a lot of stress in the future.  But equally important with planning is being adaptable.  When I served in the Army, we had a motto, “no plan survives first contact with the enemy.”  Which in many cases, any plan in real life might not survive contact with the real world.

Well, some of it might actually survive, you just have to have a flexible plan that is adaptable to reality and the real world.  If you never take the time to develop a plan that is flexible with the real world, then you will be adding a great deal of stress on yourself.  So, even though a plan might change and in some cases, totally destroyed in the real world, it’s still important to plan and have that plan be flexible and you must be ready to change the plan when you need to.

Probably one of the great things I have learned is talking with a professional financial planner.  He actually did a good job.  I was really impressed with his knowledge and he thought of some things I never even thought about.

For example, I never thought to use life insurance as not just a tool for having money to leave to your loved ones so they can pay for your burial when you pass away, but life insurance is also important to leave an income to your loved ones for a number of years to come after your death for example.  So, to me, I think it’s a great idea to buy a whole life policy at a young age so that your family can bury you when you die of old age, but also buy term life insurance in addition to a whole life policy to provide an income stream to your loved ones to replace your lost income if you die before you hit old age or retirement age.  It will relieve a lot of stress on your loved ones if you die at a younger age for whatever reason because the term life insurance policy can pay out to replace your lost income to your loved ones.  Never thought of that!

So, you buy a whole life policy when you are young, save and invest towards retirement during your younger years while keeping an additional term life insurance policy to insure you if you die at a younger age before you hit retirement age.  If and when you do hit retirement age, then hopefully you will have enough retirement assets to leave to your loved ones to provide them with a sufficient income and you can drop the term policy which will then by that time become more expensive and you still have a whole life policy whose rates are locked in and can be used to pay for your funeral costs when you die of old age.  Pretty amazing!  Never thought of using a combination of whole life and term life insurance policies together like that to fill in gaps from some of the possibilities that can happen in life.

So, in the example of whole life and term life insurance policies being used in combination, you really begin to see the benefits of planning.

Simple Board Gaming Night Checklist

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I am a big board game player.  Some of my favorite board games are Axis and Allies, Dungeons and Dragons strategy board game called “Conquest of Nerath,”  Memoir 44 is another great game as well as Twilight Struggle.  However, when planning a board gaming night, I think it’s especially important to have a checklist to go by.  Some of you might be board gamers like myself and might find this checklist useful.  So here is the checklist I have come up with to plan a board game night:

1)  Schedule a day everybody can play and not have to leave during the game for work.  It’s very important to use an RSVP service for various events like Evite.  Here is the link to Evite’s website: .   You can use to schedule a day for board gaming event and send out various invitations to emails of your gaming friends.   On the invitations, your friends can RSVP whether they can attend the event or not.

This enables you to see how many people can attend your gaming night event and if not enough people can attend, then you know ahead of time and won’t have a game night.  Or if enough people attend, you have an idea of how many people can attend and thus how many people to expect.  Under “Parties” on evite, you can click on “gaming night” to send out an invitation to your friends for a board game night.  Also, you can put the exact location and start time of your game night on the online evite invitation so it keeps all the details clear to your friends.

2)  Figure out what sort of food everybody wants and have them chip in.  You can use the evite card to do this and communicate with your friends online to see if they want to order pizza or simply everybody bring their own dish and have a potluck for the gaming night event.   This helps in planning what food will be available.

3)  I like to have a clean house for my guests if I am hosting a game night, so I make sure the house is very nice and clean.

4)  Set up the game beforehand.  Having the game set up before anybody arrives saves time and it enables everybody to get playing and having more fun quickly than going through what is sometimes a long set up process which could potentially bog down the fun.  After setting up the game, make sure everybody is going to have plenty of space at the game table for their playing pieces and to have some elbow room at the table for any kind of food you guys might be serving on your board game night.

5)  Have rule books handy for the game in case you need to look up any rules.  It’s a good idea to have a full mastery of the rules already before playing, that way your gaming event doesn’t get bog down trying to figure out the rules or what rules apply and you can simply keep the game rolling.

6)  Have an idea how long everybody is willing to play and have everybody commit to that time to play.  That way you don’t have some people taking off early while others stay longer.  It makes it an end time more definite for your event.

7)  Most important part of the checklist:  HAVE FUN!  That’s what gaming is all about is having fun!

Looking Forward To Performing At The Braves Game This August 30th

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looks like I lucked out and had a client book me for a Brave’s game.  I have always loved and enjoyed a good Braves baseball game!  And now, I will be performing strolling magic at the club patio and the Top of the Chop Patio.  This is going to be TOTALLY AWESOME!  My performance start time will be 11:30am and I will be performing for 3 hours, basically the entire Braves game.

What more could any magician ask for?  I get to perform what I love the most:  the art of magic and I get to do it at a Braves baseball game!  Absolutely love going to a baseball game, even if I will be working.  Took a look at a few pictures of the Club Patio and the Top of the Chop patio on Turner Field’s website.  Here is a view of the “Top of the Chop Patio” at Turner Field: .  Then their is also the view of the “Club Patio” at Turner Field as well, which I have been told is in the same vicinity and area as the “Top of the Chop Patio” looks like at the Northeast gate.

The views of both locations look really awesome and I really think the employees of my client will have an absolute grand time between watching magic probably while waiting for their food at the club patio and watching a Braves game.  Who could beat that for a good time?   Well, I am hoping the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Yankees this coming Sunday on August 30th!  GO BRAVES!

Looking Forward To A Game of Mortal Combat!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I got relatives coming over today.  Brother in law will be over to play Mortal Combat!  Plus, relatives will be coming over to visit from out of state, so, looking forward to seeing them.  Anyway, I get a kick out of playing my brother in law in a game of Mortal Combat.  Very fun game to play with family and friends.  I’ve also been playing Elder Scrolls Online and been leveling up my Sorcerer character.  I’ve got him at level 22 right now.  So, when I have time I play the sorcerer character and level him up as much as I can.  You know, I really enjoy Elder Scrolls Online.  It’s an excellent game!  The more I play it and get into, the funner the game is!  There is ALOT to do in the game!

I’ve also been playing Battlefield 4.  I’ve gotten to the point where I am trying to get good with helicopters and flying the airplanes.  The airplanes and helicopters can be a challenge.  EA has also done a stand up job on this particular game as well.  If you don’t know already, Battlefield 4 has been out on the market for a long time now, but it’s still just a great game to play.  The game centers around a lot of team play and you can be an infantryman or jump into tanks or other vehicles and drive those vehicles or you can jump into helicopters or planes and fly them against the opposing team in the video game.  Anyway, I have relatives coming over, so I am having to cut this blog post short.  Hope y’all have a good one!

Been Extremely Busy These Past Few Days

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I hadn’t been able to post these past few days because I have been extremely busy being on the road and working gigs.   The gigs I have been working has been back to back.  So after working the gigs I was pretty exhausted and needed some time to rest and recuperate.  So, today, I am back in the saddle blogging again.  Usually, if you see me missing a few days from blogging it’s because I am working gigs or maybe sick, though, honestly, it’s very rare that I am sick.  Most of the time it’s because I am having to go out and work several gigs back to back.  I am sometimes able to blog even on days that I do have gigs, but that’s not always possible.

Today, I also have to catch up and clean the pool.  I clean the pool at least once a week, but try and get it every 4 days.  However, been busy so I hadn’t been able to get to the pool, so today is the day I will be getting to the pool, adding chemicals and scrubbing down the liner of the pool.  I like to stay on top of keeping the pool clean and the chemicals checked.  You certainly can’t let that go.  Maintaining a pool is something you have to constantly do and if you don’t you are just creating a whole bunch more work for yourself in the end that could have been prevented with an ounce of constant maintenance.

Sunday Is Family Day

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

In my household, Sunday is family day.  We will be grilling out and swimming in the swimming pool today with other family members who will be stopping by.  It’s always good to see the family and spend time with them.  What would I do without my family?  I would be doomed!  I am a very lucky and fortunate guy!

Anyway, today will be a great day for me to whoop my brother in law in the PS4 video game called “Mortal Combat!”    Once you start playing the game it’s actually a pretty fun game.  It takes some time to learn the controls and learn and fully understand the game, but once you do, it’s great fun!  I like Johnny Cage and Scorpion!

But to me, it’s much more funner to play in person against friends and family than it is to play online against other players.  But still, playing online is fun, just not as fun as playing friends and family in person on your PS4.  One fun thing to do when playing online in Mortal Combat is playing “King of the Hill.”  That’s when online players connect with each other online and fight each other in the game and the guy who keeps winning is “King of the Hill” so other players will play against him and try to beat him.

Finally, if somebody is able to beat the person who is “King of the Hill” that person becomes the new “King of the Hill” and the other players try to deul against him to beat him to become the new “King of the Hill.”  So, it’s a great way to get better at the game.  Plus, it gives other players the opportunity who are in the online room with you to watch you play other players in these matches and to give you “respect” by rating you level of respect points from 1-10 and every player can reward you respect points and those points add up between all the players.  Pretty funny!
