One Thing I Have Learned Operating A Business Here Recently

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I have learned one thing about operating a business (well, I learned this in military service as well, but this also applies in business too).  This is actually an Amish proverb but is also true in military service and running a business:  “Teamwork divides the effort and multiplies the effect.”  My wife has been helping with the Twitter and Facebook business accounts and it certainly has taken a load off my shoulders and enabled me to focus on learning new magic material and putting together a magic show.  This would have been more difficult without her help.  I see now that with my wife and I working together as a team, the effort is divided but the effect is multiplied.  Which helps to make a business more profitable.  Well, time for me to close this blog post here.  Good night!

New Cool Card Trick Goes Over Well

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

A new card trick I just started performing tonight went over pretty well tonight at Applebee’s in Perry, GA.  The card trick basically involves having somebody pick a card.  After they have picked a card I punch a hole in the card and then move the hole on the card around with my thumb.  Then, I take a second card from the deck and the hole jumps from one card to the other card.  The new card with the hole in it is shown the spectator in which I then take a magnifying glass and have him look through the magnifying glass.  The hole looks much bigger through the magnifying glass, but when I remove the magnifying glass the hole really has grown much bigger!  I then have them look right through the magnifying glass again and take the magnifying glass and lower it down to the card to where the hold shrinks.  The card and the original card that the spectator picked and had a hole punched in it, is handed out for examination.  Pretty cool trick!  People enjoy this particular trick!

Played Arkham’s Horror With Family

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Got a chance to play the new board game that I got as a Christmas present!  It was a little slow starting but it seemed once we got the flow of the rules it was a fun game.  It wasn’t over complicated, but the rule book could have been written where you didn’t have to flip around so much to different parts of the rules.  However, once you played the game a while and started to get the hang of the rules and game play it was pretty smooth, simple and fun.  It was just getting over flipping around to various different pages of the rules that slowed down the first game and getting used to the game play.  But once you got the hang of the rules after all the flipping around in the rule book to where you didn’t need to refer to rule book that much, it was smooth and simple game play and fun.

I’ll also be performing at Applebee’s in Perry tomorrow from 7pm-9pm!  I got a new magic trick that is awesome and I am looking forward to performing it for other people.  I already tried it out on some folks that I know would offer an honest opinion on it.  They were definitely impressed and I know I am ready for the folks at the restaurants I work!  Anyway, time for me to end this blog here!  Take care!

Getting Ready To Play Board Game

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Looking forward to going over to my Brother in law’s house tomorrow to play “Arkham’s Horror” the game I got for Christmas.  Today, I punched out the cardboard playing pieces and organized them for play.  Also pulled out the game board and looked at it for the first time.  The game looks like it is going to be great fun.  Plus, this particular game has a series of expansions which can be purchased.  However, I want to play the game and really get the rules down first.  Then I will look at purchasing some of the expansions in the future. Also been reading the rules and I need to check to see if the game rules has any erratas to be downloaded from it’s website.  Should be fun to play tomorrow.

Also had an opportunity to go over to my favorite hang out place, Starbucks and get some coffee and try out a new magic trick I have been practicing.  People were floored by it and ranked it up there with the quarter through the steel bar trick.  It basically involves a spectator picking a card and then I take a hole puncher and punch a hole in their card.  Then, I move the hole around on their card and then the hole jumps from one part of their card to the other part.  Then the hole jumps from their card, to a second card.  It is then I take a magnifying glass and the hole looks bigger and after removing the magnifying glass the punched out hole has actually grown.  Then taking the magnifying glass and lower it close to the hole, the hole then actually shrinks back to it’s original side.  The cards are then handed out for examination.  People absolutely loved the trick.  So, it’s a new trick I will be performing at my restaurants

Holidays Were Nice, Relaxing, Fun And Rejuvenating

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

This past holiday had definitely been relaxing and rejuvenating for me.   I enjoy working hard for some time and then having a day or two to just relax and rejuvenate.  Generally after having those one or two days to recharge my batteries I am ready to come back to work full throttle.  So, here I am, back to work writing a blog post for the company blog.  My family celebrates Christmas and we went over to my brother in law’s house and the rest of the family was there.  It was great to see the rest of the family, eat some awesome food and watch the children of my relatives open Christmas presents.  I even got a Christmas present myself, so I was happy!

My brother in law got me a board game entitled “Arkham Horror”  for my Christmas present.  I was extremely happy to get it.  Generally, I will play with folks in my family “Betrayal at House on the Hill 2nd Edition” which is a great haunted house game as well as “Mansions of Madness” and it’s various game expansions and we have great fun playing both games and both games are fun and different from each other and well worth the purchase.

I like to play “Betrayal At House on the Hill 2nd Edition” because their is not as many playing pieces, the game rules are simply, easy to understand and it’s quick to learn them.  Each time you play, the game is different and strategy is very in depth.  “Mansions of Madness” is much different from “Betrayal at House On the Hill 2nd Edition” and is fun as well and offers other dimensions of play that is not offered by “Betrayal at House  at House on the Hill” and the same is true vice versa.   There are a lot more board pieces though and it takes some time to set up and really master the rules and game play. “Arkham Horror” is a game I have not played yet, so I am practicing some new magic tricks while also reading the rules on this particular game when I am not practicing new magic tricks.  We will be playing this game Friday, which I am looking forward to.  Anyway, I hope everybody had a wonderful Holiday like I did!  New Years is coming up here pretty quick!

Watched the TV Show “Top 20 Most Shocking Whackos Behind the Wheel” on Court TV

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I can’t help but laugh when I watch some of these incidents in the show.  The announcer in the show sometimes makes it more amusing as well.  Then some of the incidents featured in the show is nothing to laugh about.  I don’t know what it is about these “Top 20 Most….” whatever shows, but they get me watching them every time.  It’s also amazing how crazy or stupid we can be as human beings sometimes when I watch these shows.  Anyway, another day of work tomorrow.  Y’all take care!

Exciting Time Working Christmas Party!

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

Had a great time working a Christmas party tonight!  A strolling close up magician made it perfect!  I could tell that the energy of the party was much much better by having me there to perform (I am not bragging, but it really was an amazing time at this Christmas party).  The customer was very happy and I really enjoyed myself as well.  Anyway, I got two more gigs coming up here pretty quick tomorrow and Sunday.  Y’all have a great weekend!

Fun Time At Applebee’s

By Davenport Magical Entertainment, L.L.C. | Atlanta Magician

I had a great time at Applebee’s tonight.  I noticed that my performances get much better with experience.  Very pleased with how my performances are progressing.  Just have to keep working hard to constantly improve the performances and keep getting better at my craft.  It was also great to have a few days rest after going several days in a row performing and then get back into performing again.   I felt fresh, rested, relaxed and happy performing.  Looking forward to another busy weekend coming up.  Anyway, I hope everybody had a wonderful day!
